SKILLS PROGRAMMES

1.1 Emergency First Aid Courses

We offer occupational Skills Programme in Basic Emergency First Aid Responder and Occupational Certification in Advanced Emergency First Aid Responder training courses to individuals and groups.

• Occupational Skills Programme in Basic Emergency First Aid Responder (SP – 230801); NQF Level 2 

Basic Emergency First Aid skills programme, the person qualified in this skills programme has a  crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in the workplace 

This training is delivered through one knowledge module and one practical module. This skills programme will be delivered over a period of two and a half days theory and practical to achieve a minimum of 3 credits to achieve competence/ certification.

Having a valid basic emergency first aid certificate can be an asset in many industries in South Africa. The person in possession of this certificate can work in a variety of industries such as safety and security, hospitality industry, sports and recreation etc.

• Occupational Certification in Advanced Emergency First Aid Responder –

 (SP – 230803); NQF Level 4

An Advanced Emergency First Aid Responder is a risk-based first aid provider who plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in the workplace. 

This training is delivered through one knowledge and one practical module. At the end of training 6 credits will be accumulated. The duration of the training is four and a half days theory and five days practical. The practical component can be completed at the workplace.

With advanced first aid skills and knowledge, the candidate learner can work as a first aid provider within a workplace setting. Certification in risk-based first aid can be valuable for a role as a health and safety officer. An advanced knowledge of first aid can open doors to become an event medic or first aid provider responsible for providing medical assistance to attendees, handling minor injuries, and coordinating with emergency services when necessary. 

Entry requirements to the advanced Emergency First Aid Responder is Skills Certificate in Intermediate Emergency First Aid, NQF Level 3.

1.2 Community Counsellor Skills programme

Community Counsellors provide knowledge on the theory behind physical and spiritual wellness, trauma, bereavement and strategies of supportive counselling to bringing relief or mitigation of these and attain greater spiritual and mental wellness, both in one-on-one community counselling sessions and supportive community counselling and healing.  

The Community Counsellor skills programme makes provision for 40% theory and 60% practical application to ensure that learners are competent in the prerequisite knowledge and practice. At the end of training 25 credits will be accumulated.

The duration of the course is 32 days

 Access to this skills programme is open to individuals that have NQF level 4 (matric). 

 Work opportunities/ further studies: Qualified learners will have critical skills needed in Local Government, Social Development, Education or Community Development sectors in government departments and or municipalities, non-government organizations, religious organizations, faith-based organizations, Human Resources and Employee Wellness Programmes. 

2. QUALIFICATIONS

2.1 Child and Youth Care Worker Qualification

A Child and Youth Care Worker contributes to the provision of holistic therapeutic care and supports the development of children and youth in order to ensure the appropriate development of the individuals through the application of professional life space interventions.

The entry level to this qualification is NQF Level 3 with Communication. 

At the end of training 190 credits will be accumulated. 

The duration of this course is 1 year.

2.1.1 Work opportunities further studies:

The Child and Youth Cre workers can work in residential care facilities, schools, daycare centres, community development, substance abuse programs, and as probation or court support staff.

Horizontal Articulation: 

• Occupational Certificate: Social Auxiliary Work, Level 5. 
• National Certificate in Human Resource Management, Level 5 (ID 66873).  

Vertical Articulation: 

• University Diploma in Christian Service: Social Work, Level 6 (ID 6209).  

2.2 Community Development

A Community Development Worker collects and provides relevant information from and to communities and builds social cohesion within the community, in order to support the development and implementation of community development initiatives and processes. 

The entry level to this qualification is NQF Level 2 with Communication.  

At the end of training 150 credits will be accumulated. 

The duration of the course is 1 year  

2.2.1 Work opportunities further studies:

This qualification will provide the means through which this cadre can be capacitated and it will enable these critical employees to embark on a career path locally and globally. The qualification will provide opportunities for people into entry level types of occupations in the Department of Social Development and with a range of Non-Governmental Organisations. It will also create opportunities for successful learners to enter the private sector in organisations which do community work in terms of the various industry charters.

• Further Education and Training Certificate: Community Development, at NQF Level 4, SAQA Qualification ID 67509. 

Vertical articulation is possible to: 

• NQF Level 5 Occupational Certificate: Community Worker (Community Development Practitioner).
